In the Computer Lab

Because of the short week this week and the week we come back from Christmas break I will be able to combine lessons to cover each class so no one misses out.

In Kindergarten we will start out the class with Starfall doing level 7. We will be reading "Pete's Sheep," learning "th," "double e," and "ink" word endings. We will then go to "Literactive" and do some activities with matching. Check out Literactive for many fun educational games for PreK to First grade.

First grade will start out the class practicing typing skills on BBC Dance Mat. We will then go to a program called Riverdeep to play "Reading Builder Practice." To list just a few items that will be covered... short vowels, word families, beginning blends and ending blends.

Second grade will start out the class practicing typing skills on BBC Dance Mat. We will then begin working on a PowerPoint with a Geography project they have been working on in class. This will be a two week activity and when finished I will post some of their work on our blog.

Third and Fourth grade will start out the class practicing typing skills on Type To Learn. We will then be learning the basics of using Excel. I have a few activities we will do in class the next two weeks. Check out an example of one of the activities we will be doing... "Come to the Show."

In Computer Lab this week...

Kindergarten will begin the class with Starfall. They will focus on the silent "e", long "A", reading the book "Jake's Tale", and reviewing the "wh" sound. They will also read a book about the Gingerbread Man. Students will then be introduced to the Kidz Page to play some educational holiday games.

First Grade will begin class practicing their keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat. They will then be introduced to the Kidz Page to play some educational holiday games.

Second-Fourth Grade will be taking the SRI test this week. This is a reading test through Scholastic Reading Inventory. This gives your child their Lexile reading level. If they finish before class ends they will practice keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat and/or Type to Learn.

This week in Computer Lab...

Kindergarten will once agin begin the hour on Starfall. They will go to "Learn to Read" and do the following.

Read “Gus the Duck,” “ug,” word endings, “short vowels,” and silent “e.” They will then go to Riverdeep and do activities under "Trudy's Time and Place." This will teach them concepts about geography, mapping, directions and time telling.

First grade will begin with BBC Dance Mat to practice keyboarding skills. They will then also go to Riverdeep and do activities under "Trudy's Time and Place." This will teach them concepts about geography, mapping, directions and time telling.

Second, Third and Fourth grade will continue with their Acuity testing. They will be tested in Math this week. When finished they will go to BBC Dance Mat or Type to Learn to practice keyboarding skills.

This week in the Computer Lab

This week Kindergarten will continue with reading in Starfall. They will focus on activities "The Big Hit," "vowels," and ig/ip word endings.  They will also do activities with "Mox's Shop," "sh," and ot/og word endings. Once finished students will be introduced to Brain Pop Jr. and watch a video on phonics and rhyming.


In First Grade students will start off the class practicing keyboarding skills with BBC Dance Mat. They will then also be introduced to Brain Pop Jr. and watch a video on animals and their habitat.


Second, Third and Fourth grade will be doing their Acuity benchmarks this week on Language Arts.

With this being such a short week we will start out our class as normal, Kindergarten reviewing Starfall and First through Fourth practicing keyboarding skills. When finished we will explore some activities on sites that have to do with Thanksgiving. Here are a few of the sites... Primary Kids, Too Many Turkeys, Turkey Anagram Game, The First Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Day Quiz, Thanksgiving Dinner, Quiz Your Noodle: Thanksgiving, Funny Fill-in: Picture Perfect-Turkey Day.

What we are learning this week in Computer Lab...

In Kindergarten we will go to Starfall and do activities under, "Learn to Read." Students will reinforce skills such as left to right, read "Peg the Hen," and focus on the "en," and "et" sounds. They will then do "Reading with Silly Turkey."  When we are finished with this students will go to Riverdeep and do activities with Sammy Science reinforcing skills on sequencing, sorting, seasons, weather and matching.

First Grade will practice the first 15 minutes on keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat. Students will then continue working on their slideshow in KidPix that they began the week before.

Second Grade will also practice the first 15 minutes on keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat. Students will then review what we have learned up to this point. This will include Internet Safety websites; Microsoft Word; KidPix; Kidspiration; Penny Panda's Sticker Store; That Spelling is Right; Riverdeep and/or CoolMath for kids.

Third and Fourth Grade will begin the first 15 minutes practicing keyboarding skills with Type to Learn. Students will then continue working on their PowerPoint slideshow and presentation from the week before.

This week in the lab...

This week we will be reviewing what we have learned up to this point in class this week.

Kindergarten will review Starfall - Learn to Read (letters, calendar, pumpkins, etc.) We will also review "Peep and the Big Wide Word," Riverdeep - Bailey's Book House and Millie's Math House and KidPix.

First Grade we will review internet safety websites, Microsoft Word, KidPix, Kidspiration, Penny Panda's Sticker Store and Riverdeep activities.

Second Grade will continue with their Acuity testing in Math this week.

Third and Fourth Grade will review internet safety websites, Microsoft Word, KidPix, Kidspiration, That Spelling is Right and Hot Shot Business.

The following week First, Third and Fouth will continue working on their slideshows from last week.

This week in computer lab...

Kindergarten will be discussing fire safety. We have several sites that will be integrated into the lesson. We will visit "Elmo's Fire Safety," "USFA Kids," and "Get Out of the Way!"

First grade will start out with BBC Dance Mat. We will then have discussion on presentations. We will navigate through Kid Pix slideshow and make our own three slide presentation. We will be working on this the next two weeks.

Second grade is taking part in Acuity Testing. This is a benchmark to see how they are doing in Language Arts and Math. Third and Fourth took this several weeks ago so now it's time for Second grade to take part. This will take two weeks as they will do Lang. Arts this week and Math next week.

Third and Fourth grade will start out with Type to Learn. We will then have instruction on using Power Point. Students will be making their own presentation over something they have been learning in class. They too will be working on this the next two weeks.

What we are learning this week in Computer Lab

This week in Kindergarten we will continue with Starfall, we will review, "at" and "an" as well as read  "Zac the Rat" and watch the video "How the Alphabet Got Its Name."  Students will also get to read "Pumpkin Patch." We will then go to Scholastic and play "Spell With Leo." Studnets will listen and match letters to words and pictures.

In First grade we will begin the class practicing keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat.  We will then go to Scholastic and read "Emily Elizabeth Goes to School," and "Here, Clifford." This will be followed by games and stories to read practing sound matching, letter matching, making words and concentration.

Second grade wll begin the class practicing keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat. Then they will go to Scholastic and do "Story Starter." Here students will generate a creative writing prompt and pick one of four formats to print their finished story.

In Third and Fourth grades we will begin the class practicing keyboarding skills using the Type to Learn software. They will then go to Scholastic and do "Story Starter." Here students will generate a creative writing prompt and pick one of four formats to print their finished story.

This week in class...

This week in Kindergarten we will continue with Starfall, reading "Zac the Rat" and watching a video of "How the Alphabet Got Its Name."  We will then continue with "Millie's Math House." We will be doing activities that will practice on counting and adding & subtracting.

In First and Second grades we wll begin the class practicing keyboarding skills on BBC Dance Mat.  We will then go into Micrograms and use the program "That Spelling is Right" to practice spelling words.

In Third and Fourth grades we will begin the class practicing keyboarding skills using the Type to Learn software. We will then practice math skills in Micrograms using the program, "Wild West Math."

What's going on?

In class this week Kindergarten will continue to use Starfall to practice their letters. We will then go to "Millie's Math House" to learn about little/big; shapes; what's my number? and patterns.

1st and 2nd grade will start out working on keyboarding skills at BBC Dance Mat. Students will then go to "Penny Panda's Sticker Store" to practice money skills. Students may purchase stickers as they answer math questions.

3rd and 4th grade will start out working on keyboarding skills on "Type to Learn 3." I will then introduce "Hot Shot Business." Students will create a business and make decisions on ways to keep it afloat.
